The Plantation Driving Club
was founded in December, 1982. Our members have a common interest in driving
their horses and ponies for fun and enjoyment. Whether you are just starting
out carriage driving and don't know the difference between the traces and a
crupper, or you are an experienced whip competing in Combined Driving Events,
the Plantation Driving Club
has something for you.
The Plantation Driving Club
was established to provide an opportunity for
anyone with an interest in driving to meet others with the same interest. We
come together to compare notes, discuss various topics, learn new techniques,
get support from one another and just have fun. Our members come from a large
geographic area which includes Prince George's, Charles, St. Mary's and Calvert
counties in Maryland and the northern neck of Virginia as well as northern
Virginia.
Our club is affiliated with the
American Driving Society (ADS). The ADS is the governing body for Pleasure
Driving, Combined Driving and Driven Dressage competition.
The Plantation Driving Club
has the following objectives and guiding
principles:
- To promote safe driving standards,
- To establish cordial relationships with
land owners,
- To further the sport of driving for fun
and pleasure by sharing with others and
- To offer individual services as needed to
help build a strong working club.
The
Plantation Driving Club organizes and
sponsors a variety of activities so that members can benefit from the club.
Activities include picnic drives, video meetings, trips to competitions at
Fairhill, Martin's Auction, the local harness maker's shop and clinics covering
various topics such as Ground Driving, Starting Your Driving Horse, and
Competing Hazards 101.
